THE EASTER EGG HUNT IS THIS AFTERNOON in the City Park, 3-5 p.m.  Lots of things to do after the egg hunt:  face painting, jumpers, games, food, etc.  Everyone welcome.

We welcome the children as they participate in the Palm Processional today.  This is the beginning of the Palm/Passion week, the week that leads to the Crucifixion on Friday and the Resurrection on Sunday.  Next Sunday is Easter Sunday.

TRINITY SINGERS will present a short cantata on Easter Sunday morning entitled “The Rose.”  Final practices will be tonight at 6 p.m. and Wednesday night at 6:30.

THIS WEEK TUMC TO HOST HOLY WEEK SERVICES again this year.  They will start at 7 a.m. each morning Monday through Thursday, April 18 through 21st.  All churches in the community participate in these services, with Bro. Greg Stevens speaking on Monday; Pastor Susan Hoyle on Tuesday; Bro. Kevin Eskew on Wednesday and Bro. Bob Holland on Thursday.  The services usually last about 30 minutes, giving time for people to attend before going to work.  For those who do not have a work deadline to meet, there will be coffee and doughnuts, etc., for a half hour or so of visiting.  These services help prepare us for the Good Friday and Easter Morning Services.

THE COMMUNITY GOOD FRIDAY SERVICE will be held at the 1st General Baptist Church on Christian Drive with Bro. Dwight Hensley preaching at 7 p.m.

MAUNDY THURSDAY SERVICES will be held at Trinity on Thursday, April 21, at 7 p.m.  Pastor Susan always has an outstanding service for this occasion—we will be a part of the Last Supper which Jesus shared with His disciples.  If you haven’t been there, perhaps you can try it this year; if you have attended, you will want to come again.

There will be a WEDDING SHOWER FOR JULIE CHRISTIAN, daughter of Jean Christian, on Saturday, April 30, from 10–11:30 a.m.   Julie is registered at Target and a few things at J. C. A Light in the Window

A Light in the Window
Susan Hoyle, pastor Trinity UMC

Easter is less than two weeks away.  Perhaps you are preparing for a big Easter dinner with family and friends.  Maybe you are making Easter baskets for the kids or grandkids.  You might be planning on taking the kids to an Easter egg hunt.  These are the kinds of things we do at Easter.  But there’s something more important than any of these activities.  What could that be, you ask?  The most important question is: how are you preparing to walk with Jesus to the cross of Good Friday and the Resurrection of Easter Sunday?  And that’s not an easy question to answer, is it?

When we think about Easter we often think about all the activities I mentioned earlier. We don’t think much about why this is a most holy season of the Christian year until a service on Good Friday or Easter Sunday.  What might happen if we put as much thought into walking with Jesus during Holy Week as we do on those other activities?  Perhaps we would experience Holy Week in a way that we never thought possible.  God is always waiting to show us how we can come closer into God’s holy presence.

So how can we walk with Jesus during Holy Week?  We can begin by reading Scripture.  Begin by reading Matthew 21, Mark 11, Luke 19 or John 12.  Each of the Gospels tells us how Jesus came into Jerusalem during that last week of His life and the crowds cheered Him.  This sets the stage for the joy that turns into the sorrow of Good Friday.  Then each day read Scripture after that first passage to get a sense of what was going on during that week.  As you read the passages, imagine you are there listening to Jesus.  Imagine the crowd of people around Him.  Notice what’s going on.  Put yourself in the story.

Then on Holy Thursday, read Matthew 26:17, Mark 14:12, Luke 22:14 or John 13 and experience Holy Communion with Jesus and His disciples.  Remember you are a disciple (learner), too.  Then on Good Friday, read the rest of the passages about His death.  We may not want to read about His death because it is too painful.  We want the celebration of Easter Sunday but not the suffering of Good Friday.  That’s only natural.  Yet as followers of Christ, it is important to walk the way He walked and to think about what He experienced.  Then we begin to understand what He did for us.  And God will reveal new insights to us as we walk this walk.  And through those insights, we will experience more love, more saving grace and more resurrection that we have ever experienced before.  That’s the power of walking with Jesus to the cross of Good Friday and the hope of Resurrection Sunday.

May you experience the love and grace of our Lord Jesus Christ this Holy Week in a way that brings you closer to God and gives you the peace that passes all understanding…

Join us on Monday, April 18 through Thursday, April 21, for early morning Holy Week services at 7:00 a.m.  We will walk together as we experience the week with Jesus.  The service lasts 30” and community pastors will give the meditation.  Trinity will also have a Maundy Thursday service on April 21 at 7:00 p.m.  We will be a part of that Last Supper with Jesus and His disciples.  We will have three Easter morning services.  Our chapel service is at 8:00 a.m. that is a smaller, more intimate service.  We also have services at 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. and Trinity Singers will provide a powerful Easter cantata.  Trinity UMC is located on Highway J, next to Golden Living Care Center.

God’s blessing to your and yours this most Holy season.

ATTENTION ALL CHILDREN: Next Sunday, April 17, our children will participate in the Palm processional at the 11 a.m. worship service.  All the children are invited to participate.  The very young children may be assisted by an older youth or a parent.  It’s a great opportunity for the children to have a part in the worship service as they wave the palms.

TRINITY SINGERS will practice Wednesday evening, 7p.m., immediately following JOY at 6 p.m.

WE STILL NEED LOTS OF EGGS FOR THE EGG HUNT THIS COMING SATURDAY, APRIL 16, AT THE CITY PARK.  We need plastic eggs stuffed with wrapped candy.  We will also need helpers for that day, so think about where you would like to serve--hide eggs, serve food, cook food, help supervise jumpers, etc.  Thanks for your help.

FULL BREAKFAST next Sunday, April 17; everyone welcome.

TUMC GIRLS SALAD SUPPER was a great success.  The theme of “Vintage Aprons and Tablecloths,” was carried out in the table decorations and with each person wearing an apron.  Most of the aprons carried a story which was shared by the wearer.  There were mothers’ aprons and grandmothers’ aprons which carried many memories.  A beautiful and delicious array of salads and desserts graced the buffet.

LANDSCAPING DAY – A thunder storm rolled through early Saturday morning, but that didn’t stop those landscapers.   Check it out – a great job.  Thanks to all who helped in any was, planning, purchasing, digging, planting, furnishing lunch, cleaning up, etc.  It takes a church……

MAUNDY THURSDAY SERVICES will be held at Trinity on Thursday, April 21, at 7 p.m.  Pastor Susan always has an outstanding service for this occasion.  If you haven’t been there, perhaps you can try it this year; if you have attended, you will want to come again.

Thanks to Jim and Sue Mayo for the flower bed at the driveway west of the church building. They had this in mind before plans to have the work day; it will fit in nicely with the other landscaping that is being planned.

Vicky Breece is on a Relay for life team at work and she has the Luminary bags available for purchase.  They are $5.00 a piece and can be bought for In Memory of or In Honor of.  All proceeds go to Relay for Life.  Anyone wanting them may see Vicky at church or contact her at 820-0465.

Lenten thought:  “Are ye able,” said the Master, “to be crucified with me?”
“ Yea,” the sturdy Christians answered, “to the death we’ll follow thee.
Lord, we are able, our spirits are thine; remold them, make us, like thee, divine.
Thy guiding radiance above us shall be, a beacon of God, to love and loyalty.”
