Trinity Talk...A Weekly Newsletter

TRINITY TALK – DECEMBER 18, 2011

Remember That 10% Challenge?
Remember the challenge two weeks ago to tithe 10% of what you spend on Christmas and give it to a ministry of your choice?  Perhaps Stoddard Co. Gospel Mission, Stoddard Co. Children’s Home, Heifer Project, our food ministry, our diaper or DFS Clothes Closet or other ministries?  Just a reminder that we will write our amount (no name of course) and there will be a box in the hallway at our Christmas Day service and we will give the total during the worship service.  It’s just another way to offer gifts to Jesus for His birthday!

Children and Youth Christmas Program This Evening
Trinity kids and youth will sing beautiful songs of the Christmas season tonight at 6:00 p.m.  The children need to be in the Fellowship Hall by 5:30.  We will also share some conversation and snacks after the program.  Please join us.

The Blue Christmas service scheduled for Tuesday evening is designed especially for those who have experienced a loss during the past year, or earlier.  Perhaps it is the loss of a loved one, the lost of a job, financial losses, or any number of other losses.  Come, be encouraged and have your heart warmed, remembering that God has always had a plan for your life.

UMW DELIVERS CHRISTMAS  to  the shut ins.  Thank you to all who sent cards for this project  and to the ladies of our UMW who coordinated the delivery to shut-ins and others.   This is just one of the outreach ministries of the UMW.  There were 27 participants sending 367 cards to 16 recipients.

Trinity Youth Fundraiser   The youth have decided to do a small fundraiser, since several have asked about loins for the holiday season.  We will be cooking next Thursday, Dec. 22.  We will only cook 48 loins this time.  So...if you think you will want one get your orders in first.  Don't delay or there won't be enough.
The first 24 loins will come off the cooker and be ready to pick up at the Gibbs shop around 1:00 pm.  The second batch of 24 loins will come off the cooker and be ready to pick up around 5:00 pm.  The cost will be $22.00 this year due to meat cost increase.  If you would like to order one or two, email me at
jillgibbs34@gmail.com or call 568-3934 and leave a message on the answering machine.  You can also order at church today.
Thanks for your support!  May you and your families be Blessed during Christmas and the New Year!  Jill Gibbs and the Youth of Trinity.

Julie Massey Schoolfield  received her Bachelor’s Degree from college this past week.  After several years of working and going to school in addition to being wife and mother, Julie reached her goal.  She is the daughter of Larry and Sandra Massey.  Congratulations, Julie.  We are proud of you.

Congratulations to Maggie Thorn on her performance with Buck Trent last weekend.  She’s racking up some great experiences.  Watch for her future engagements.  ‘Way to go, Maggie!

Tri-County Hospice is in urgent need of volunteers who will visit with clients, often reading Scripture and some conversation with folks who are terminally ill.  Judy Williams 614-4000 needs your help with clients in Bloomfield.  Would you prayerfully consider calling her and finding out how you can help

Food Ministry Items for December and January
The food ministry item for December and January for the Assembly of God food ministry is soup or ingredients for soup.  Carrie Green, Trinity’s coordinator, noted that our container for the food pantry was overflowing at Town and Country when she got there to pick it up.  Randy Zook, one of the coordinators at AG with whom Carrie works, told her that if it were not for Trinity donations, things surely would not be as good since many agencies who formerly donated food (USDA, etc.) do not contribute anymore.  Our food and diaper ministries are important to Carrie, who assists Lara Thorn in these endeavors.  She pointed out that if each Trinity family would bring just two cans of food per week, what a difference it would make—possibly the difference between families having well balanced meals or not.
·
Thanks to William Chasteen  for putting up the outdoor Nativity Scene on the hillside.  Very impressive.
The 2011 Claus for a Cause raised a grand total of $6,863.12!!!!  Trinity says thanks to Julie Dodd for her wonderful work with this cause.   Half the proceeds will go to 18 Fore Life and half to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Trinity Women CelebrateThirteen women enjoyed the UMW Wednesday Christmas lunch at Hickory Log and 41 women attended the TUMC Girls’ party Wednesday night at the Fellowship Hall.  Trish Vandeven catered a delicious meal after which a gift exchange (crazy Santa) was enjoyed by the members and their guests.

NEW BUILDING LOAN BALANCE:  $29,172.47.  YEA!!!!!  Below $30 thousand!!  Imagine that!  Could we meet the challenge of getting  the balance paid off before the end of 2012?  We would then be free and clear of that debt and could move forward with other projects.

Third Sunday in Advent

Thanks to everyone who helped  in any way with the Hanging of the Greens Service last Sunday morning, especially those who provided the musical numbers and the reader, Earl Metcalf.  Thanks also to William Chasteen who saw to it that the tree was up and decorated.  Don’t know who all helped with the decorating, but thanks.  It is beautiful.

NEXT SUNDAY – Trinity Christmas Dinner
Our annual Christmas Dinner will be next Sunday at noon in the church dining room.  The meat (ham and turkey) will be furnished; please bring a side dish, salad or dessert to share.  Come and enjoy this holiday festivity with your church family.

Blue Christmas
Christmas is not always a time of joy for everyone, especially if there have been losses during the year or even years past.  Losses could be the death of family members, divorce, unemployment and other difficult experiences.  A Blue Christmas worship service is a quieter, more somber service that honors the losses and those who travel that journey.  Join us on Tuesday, December 20 at 7:00 pm.

Children and Youth Christmas Program
Trinity kids and youth will sing wonderful songs of the Christmas season on Sunday evening, December 18 at 6:00 p.m.  Cissy Williams is directing the program with lots and lots of elves helping with props, costumes, etc.  You will not want to miss this evening.  Light refreshments and conversation will be enjoyed after the program in the dining room.  There will be dress rehearsal for the children's program on Thursday evening, December 15, at 6:00.  All children need to be there.   They will also practice on December 18 during Sunday School and Sunday Club.

Remember That 10% Challenge?
Remember the challenge two weeks ago to tithe 10% of what you spend on Christmas and give it to a ministry of your choice?  Perhaps Stoddard County Gospel Mission, Stoddard County Children’s Home, Heifer Project, our food ministry, our diaper or DFS Clothes Closet or other ministries?  Just a reminder that we will write our amount (no name of course) and there will be a box in the hallway at our Christmas Day service and we will give the total during the worship service.  It’s just another way to offer gifts to Jesus for His birthday!
