Trinity Talk
August 21, 2011

Thanks to Everyone!
On Saturday, we served 175 families which represented 469 people through the SEMO Food Pantry!  Twenty-nine folks from Trinity served our guests, made new friends, worked hard and had lots of laughs!  We are so grateful for the idea to have a couple of shopping carts and to have the “drive” through so groceries were picked up near the church entrance which made it easier for everyone.

Swimming Anyone?
Join us this Wednesday, August 24, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. for a church wide family event at Crowley Ridge Country Club.  We’ll have a GREAT time enjoying the water or just watching.  Invite your friends and bring some snacks to share.  See you Wednesday!

Coming this Fall to Trinity…
Mark your calendars for September 28 for Trinity’s new line up of small group experiences.  We’ll have supper from 5:15-6:15 p.m., JOY worship service at 6:00 p.m. and then small groups at 6:30 p.m.  Dale Williams is Trinity’s new small group coordinator and is looking for small group leaders.   “Not me,” you say?  Well, just like last fall, small group leaders choose their own topic.  We had a variety of topics including National Parks, exercise and even Miscellaneous and each leader added a devotional aspect to the discussion.  It might be a hobby or other interest that you have.  Please take some time to think and pray about how you can lead a small group to help others grow in their relationship with God and each other.  Thanks, Dale, for saying “yes” to this new ministry…and thank you for thinking about how you can serve God through this small group ministry.  We will also have small groups for our children and youth.  Childcare will be available for our babies and toddlers.

Leadership Seminar Opportunity
What does it mean to be a leader in the church?  We hear about servant ministry but what does that mean?  Here is your opportunity to learn about leadership from successful leaders and it’s almost next door!  Heartland Leadership is at Sikeston First on Friday, September 30, October 28 and November 18.  It will be an important event for learning and team building to be the most effective we can be in serving Jesus Christ.  See Pastor Susan for more information.

Food Ministry Item for August
The food item for the Assembly of God food pantry is peanut butter.  Even though we will have the SEMO Food Bank at Trinity, we want to continue to support the Assembly of God food pantry, too.  Thank you for your generosity over these past 4 years to offer food to those folks who need a little help…

From Rosemary Walker:
I would like to say a big thank you to all of my Trinity Church family for the many, many prayers that I received while rehabbing at Cypress Point.  So many beautiful cards brightened my day; I don't think a day passed that I did not receive at least one card.  Also, the phone calls, gifts, and visits were much appreciated.  I am now at home and doing better; I walk with a walker and have help with some things.  I'm hoping another month will make a big difference--perhaps I can be back in church by then.  I've read that "God didn't promise days without pain, but he did promise strength for the day."  I think that strength came to me through all of you.  Blessings to all of you.

Dinner for Eight
Dinner for Eight is a time of food, fun and conversation, does it get any better than that?  Here’s  how it works…

There will be eight adults in each group.  One person or couple from the group will be chosen to host the first Dinner for Eight meal.  The meal can be in your home or in the church dining room.  The host will make arrangements for the first meal, date, times, etc. with the other group members.  The host will provide the main course and the others will provide a side dish.  Then at that first meal, another group member will offer a time for the next meal together, usually once a month.  That's all there is to it and it is a WONDERFUL way to get to know each other and just have fun.  Please let Pastor Susan know if you would like to be part of Dinner for Eight...it will begin later in September or October...

Mission Spotlight
Our diaper ministry helps so many young families in the area.  The diaper team receives several calls each week from moms and dads who need diapers for their babies and toddlers.  They have told Lara, Kristine, Carrie, Annette, Barb, Marcia and Susan how grateful they are for this ministry…there are times when payday is just a day away but the diapers have run out.  Sadly, though, there are times when we have to say “we’re out, check back.”  Will you pick up a package when you’re shopping this week?  We need diapers sizes 3, 4 and 5 and baby wipes. There is a basket in the foyer of the sanctuary building.  This is an important ministry at Trinity and your generosity makes all the difference to a baby in Bloomfield.  Thank you for being a part of this important mission as we reach out to our community…

Congratulations
John Gandt, son of Don and Ginny Gandt, has been promoted to Major.  Don and Ginny attended the ceremony and Don pinned the oak leaf on his son.  John will be stationed in Egypt beginning the end of August.  He will be part of an international force on the Gaza Strip.  We congratulate John for his promotion and for his service to his country and for our freedom…and we pray for him…

Janet Palmer is now a published author!  She is one of 39 women who have shared their stories in Get Your Woman On.  It was an Amazon bestseller on Wednesday, July 20.  The book, which will be released in August, sold 100,000 copies that day.  Most of the authors are experts in their fields and Janet is part of this book through Divine intervention.  A few months ago, Janet ordered a book on public speaking and had not received it.  She called the phone number on the author's website on a Saturday morning and the person who answered was the author of the book.  They chatted for awhile and she asked Janet why she had ordered the book.  Janet shared some of her story about Reese's accident and how Janet felt she was to speak about all that she had learned through this difficult time.  Through that one conversation, Janet was told that she believed she was to be the 39th contributor to the book.  And now, it has become a reality.  Check out the book on amazon.com.   We praise God that Janet listened and followed...

Thank You!
Thank you to everyone that shared in Trinity’s new ministry with the SEMO Mobile Food Bank.  It was a hot day and we served our guests with drinks and radical hospitality.  We served over 168 families totaling 532 people.  How blessed we were to share our morning with our guests…

Youth and Children’s Ministry Coordinator Position
The Healthy Church Initiative Leadership and Discipleship teams recommended a new position at Trinity, Youth and Children’s Ministry Coordinator at the meeting on Tuesday evening.  We had a great discussion about our youth and children’s ministry and the Church Council approved this position.  We are seeking a person who loves Jesus and has a passion for sharing this love with our children and youth and those in ministry with them, along with the other qualifications below.  We are asking you to pray every day for God to show us the person to fill this position.  Will you make the commitment to daily prayer for our youth and children and for the person to serve in this ministry?

This is the ad we will put in local papers and online as well:

Trinity Talk...A Weekly Newsletter

Trinity Talk, June 19, 2011

TODAY IS FATHER’S DAY – a day celebrated worldwide when fathers are given special treatments and presented with nice and elegant Father’s Day gifts to make them feel all the more special for the rest of the year.  The origin has many controversies, but one version is this:  Mrs. Bruce John Dodd, of Spokane, WA, admired her father a lot as he contributed his entire life for the welfare of his children.  Mrs. Dodd’s mother had died at a very young age, and her father single handedly raised six kids and that, too, very efficiently.  She wanted to do something special in his honor and approached her minister at the church for a special service dedicated to her father on his birthday, June 5.  As the date was too near to make proper plans, the minister chose the third Sunday of the month to celebrate.  In 1924, Pres. Calvin Coolidge adopted the event as a national festival to “establish more intimate relations between fathers and their children and to impress upon fathers the full measure of their obligations.”  HAPPY FATHER’S DAY TO ALL TRINITY DADS!!

JOY services are cancelled for June 22 and June 29.

Pastor Susan will be on a spiritual pilgrimage to Iona Community in Scotland from June 19-July 3.  Susan Marner Sides will be on call for her; church 293-5685, home 293-4482 and cell 820-0422.

There will be an all-church meeting on Wednesday, June 29, at 7:00 p.m. to vote on a new worship schedule as suggested at the six month Healthy Church Initiative evaluation meeting.  The new schedule which would begin on July 10 is the Chapel Service at 8:30 a.m., Sunday school at 9:30 p.m. and the Blend at 10:30 a.m.  All are entitled to vote.

Please help us with our diaper ministry!   We need diapers sizes 3, 4 and 5 and baby wipes. There is a basket in the hallway of the sanctuary building.  Thank you for your generosity!

MISSION MOREHOUSE is Trinity's response to the devastating flood that occurred.  Pastor Susan spoke with the mayor, Pete Lieja, who said there are many ways to serve.  Sign up sheets are in the foyer for those who can help with construction, preparing a meal to take to Morehouse for the volunteers and "adopting a family."  Perhaps you can't do the physical labor but you can provide funds for the food or adopting a family.  This is the way we serve our brothers and sisters who are trying to find a new normal in their lives.  Pastor Susan went to Morehouse on Sunday and reports that a lot has been cleaned up and now comes the work of rebuilding.  Please sign up or let her know how you can help.  Thank you so much.

Congratulations to Don Gandt who officially retired as a lay pastor at Annual Conference this year.

When Pastor Susan visited with Arlene Hopkins who is now at Golden Living Care Center, she wanted to thank everyone for the cards and emails while she was in the hospital and cards and visits now that she is back in Bloomfield.  Arlene is having therapy two times a day and has already walked a bit.  We pray that Arlene will be home soon!

The WPV Homecoming was another successful event with around 77 people in attendance; the day was cooler and nice for the picnic on the grounds after the service.

SEMO Mobile Food Bank coming to Trinity.  Trinity has an amazing mission opportunity right here at the church.  Brad Aycock introduced us to this project.  Here's how it works:

Sam's and Wal Mart have a zero waste policy, so items that don't sell, etc. like bakery items are frozen and given out by the food bank.  There are fruits and vegetables, frozen meat, mac/cheese and canned goods.  It usually costs $600 but this one has been paid for by someone.  It takes about 2 hours to give out the food.  Our food bank date is set for Saturday, July 23, two weeks before and after the Assembly of God food pantry.  The food bank will put out flyers and bring tables, etc.  All we need to do is provide volunteers to hand out the food.  There will be stations for frozen food, bakery items, canned goods, etc.

There are no requirements to meet, just the name and the number of people in the family.  To assure there is enough food, the director of the mobile bank gets a sense of how many folks are there and gives out a little more or a little less and they have never run out of food (loaves and fishes, perhaps!).  They get there about 9:30 and it begins at 10:00.  People will line up much earlier so we would want to be there by 8:00 so folks don't have to stand outside.  Susan asked if we could pass out numbers so folks can sit down and still keep their place in line.  Of course, it would be great to hand out bottled water or have water and maybe some breakfast items for the folks, if we can...not a requirement, of course, but what a great way to show radical hospitality, just like we do at the yard sale.  We need at least 6-8 volunteers at the food stations and some folks to carry the food for some of the people.  There’s lots of time yet, so let Pastor know what you think.
